Do New Walkers Need To Wear Socks?

"Should new walkers wear socks with shoes?"

Answer: Okay, I am not exaggerating when I say I get this question allllll the time! I totally get it! I think the biggest piece of confusion is because many times, kid’s socks come with grippies, and sometimes they can snag in shoes and/or make getting their foot in tough!

Keeping New Walkers Comfortable In Socks and Shoes

Here's the thing - from a motor standpoint, I don't see a big deal either way! The biggest reason I push for socks is:

  1. Sweaty feet stink!

  2. I find that if their feet DO get sweaty, and the shoe isn’t the perfect fit (which unfortunately happens quickly with kids because they grow so fast!) it can cause their feet to slip around and/or toe-curling or gripping to reduce the impact that might have on balance.

So, long story short- ultimately it's up to you! We wear socks with grippies with sneakers, and it works for us!
