Winter Activities For Kids

"Now that it's cold, my kid’s energy is through the roof. Any simple outlets?"

Answer: This is SUCH a great question, and such a real struggle this time of year (it's winter here!). First- obstacle courses are always a win! Take whatever you have - pillows on the floor, couch cushions, crib mattresses, boxes, painters tape on the floor - the key components I look for when building an obstacle course for gross motors skills and energy regulation are:

  • Something to climb OVER

  • Something to climb UNDER

Fun activities for motor planning - jumping, running from point A to point B, animal crawls, tunnels...seriously, use whatever you have!

Another fun activity that is AWESOME for energy regulation is filling up a laundry basket and having them push it!

Pro-tip - throw a towel under it so it doesn't scratch the floor.

Hope that helps, hang in there - warm days are coming!
