What If My Child Is More Cautious With Gross Motor Play?

Is it okay that my child isn’t a huge climber/risk taker, even though they can?

ANSWER- As long as they are physically ABLE to climb, keep up with their peers on things like playground equipment or safely getting on/off furniture and stairs, etc - having a child that just isn’t quite as much of a daring gross motor explorer is usually absolutely okay!

Personality plays SUCH a huge role in motor skills, and some children are just a bit more cautious. Some may just not enjoy risk taking type activities like climbing! Again, as long as they are ABLE to and no other concerns are present, trusting they are in tune with what feels best/safest for them may be the best thing you can do!

If you choose to, setting up obstacle courses that are a bit more controlled can be really helpful in instilling some confidence as well! Hope that helps!
