Why Does My Baby Stomp or Put Their Arms Out While Walking?
“Why does my 18 month old do all sorts of silly things like stomping, putting their arms out to the side or behind their back when walking, walking backwards. What gives?”
ANSWER- They are EXPLODING with motor input at that stage AND really learning so much about their body, how it interacts with the world around them, and the new ways they can move!
Things like walking backwards and stomping are also actually really great functional skills, and can even lay the foundation for more complex milestones coming so soon- like jumping, stair climbing, standing on one leg, hopping, etc!
So, don’t stress their sillies - it’s usually all about learning, which is a good thing! Hope that helps!
